I am currently a BSc Honours Quantity Surveying student at the Nelson Mandela University (NMU) in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. To fulfill the requirements for my degree, I am to complete a research project based on a topic of my choice relating to the construction industry.
My study is entitled: “Barriers to the application of Whole Life Cycle Costing (WLCC) in the South African Commercial Construction Industry”.
The aim of this research is to identify the main barriers to the application of whole life cycle costing in the construction industry.
Whole Life cycle costing is known as the most accurate way to present the holistic building cost, however very little research has been conducted to investigate the reasons behind the lack of implementing Whole Life Cycle Costing. The targeted population is Quantity Surveyors and Building clients/developers.
